The 2010 season was a fantastic one for Autoslalom, with 6 excellent events, 79 series registered competitors, over 100 walk-in competitors and 3 new street tire classes to welcome beginners to the sport.
The series began in May with an excellent course at Mosport’s Driver Development Track, laid out by the Oshawa Motor Sport Club. The weather was great and competitors took the opportunity to shake off the winter cobwebs. From there, the doubleheader weekend at the Picton Airport was next with more than 110 competitors each day – some competed all weekend, and others just for one day. The Subaru Performance Driver’s Association and St. Lawrence Auto Club collaborated to utilize all three runways in order to challenge a competitor’s skills and their memories. From there, the Peterborough Motor Sports Club laid out a fantastic course at the Kawartha Downs oval. The elevation changes added an additional layer of complexity to the fun course. Twin Lakes Motor Club laid out a traditionally excellent course in Barrie, using all of the available space for the second last event of the provincial tour. Many were caught out by the changeable track conditions and tight transitions. To finish out the season, the Honda Acura Driver’s Association’s August event at the Powerade center in Brampton finalized everyone’s standings with many tight battles fought on the changeable lot conditions.
It was another great year for Marshall M, who successfully brought his Mazda Miata into first place overall for the second year in a row, he was closely followed by Daniel F in Second, and Wes T in third. Rookie of the year was Curt B who managed to place 6th overall, which is an excellent result for his first time in the series. Barry G was the second place rookie, and Travis G third place rookie.
There were many battles in the regular classes as well this year, some very close, and decided at the last event. In F Street Prepared, the winner Daniel G was less than 1 tenth ahead of the second place Corey W, Andrew R was just over 1 tenth behind Peter W in E Super Stock. The new street tire classes, Street Touring 1, 2 and Unlimited were a huge success, the largest being STU, for all other unclassified cars. JoeT was first in STU, just barely staying ahead of Travis T, Rachel M in ST2, and Richard P in ST1.
We are all looking forward to 2011 and based on what we saw in 2010, it’s bound to be another great season.
