Atlantic Region Motor Sports kicks into high gear
The 2013 competition season is well underway in Atlantic Canada with round nine at the Bluenose Autosport Club RallyCross Challenge drawing to a close. With cars ranging from performance rally cars to daily drivers and rallycross racers, it made for some great competition in all four classes (Prepared, AWD, FWD and RWD). The weather played a major role, producing everything from beautiful sunny days to snow-filled, rainy days and temperatures from -35 degree wind chills to 15 degrees. This provided plenty of ice, snow, mud and water to race on. A great time was had by all!

Moncton Motor Sport Club also held two rallycross events at the Magic Mountain theme park and not to be left out, the Fredericton Motorsport Club held two autocross events at Speedway 660. The Regional Navigational Rally Championships also started with the Atlantic Sports Car Club hosting the Kennetcook Conundrum Rally on February 9.
There was a flurry of activity with the preparation of race, autoslalom and time attack cars and karts, previewing what should be a very busy and exciting 2013 racing season starting in mid-April and running to mid-October.

The five-event ARMS Regional Race series starts with a drivers school on May 25, followed by the first race on the 26th. The usual suspects will be joined by some news cars and drivers. There has also been talk of resurrecting the open wheel category as well as a vintage racing class for some exciting additions. The season will close at the Annual Jack Canfield Memorial Three Hour Enduro on October 14. All races will be held at Atlantic Motorsport Park.

The SoloSport class is also gearing up for an eight-event Regional Autoslalom Championship, as well as a three-event Time Attack Championship. Things get underway on May 5 with the first regional autoslalom in Halifax and conclude with a club autoslalom in Moncton on October 20. There will be a number of club autoslalom and lapping days between May and October.
Although the RallyCross season is finished, those that like to play in the dirt are still very much at it with several club and regional navigational rallies. There are three Performance Rally events for the Bluenose Autosport Club that include two rally sprints and a performance rally. Current plans are for a two-day event on August 24 and 25.

Last year was a rebuilding year for Karting at ARMS and 2013 looks to continue that trend with three strong karting clubs and the return of a mid-summer Regional Karting Championship weekend.
