Day Nine: Wednesday, August 14th
Wakefield to Bon Echo (232 km)

Waking up and leaving early is always easier said than done, especially when you're on the road with your two young daughters. So much for tossing the tent, dirty dishes and all the other gear in the back of our blue companion and hitting the road at the crack of dawn. They want a profound shower, a Skype session to the homefront and time to write a few emails to their friends, so it's about 10 A.M. By the time we push onward.

We're cruising through Ottawa and stop for a short coffee break, next to the Ottawa River. We're hesitating to stop and visit the city, and ultimately decide to go on and take an exit marked 'Calabogie.' Now it looks like we're really entering the sticks. There are no huge supermarkets or flashy billboards. Only miles and miles of pure, stretched tarmac! This, in combination with the discovery of Flexie's 'Sport mode' makes it splendid for dad and daughters, who are asking, almost begging: 'Please dad, keep Flexie in Sports mode and goooo!'

In the centre of an unsightly little ghost town called Vennachar is a crossroads. On one map, there's an unpaved but hard-surfaced road, straight on. For the first 10 minutes, there are some traces of civilization. Bit by bit, the road gets smaller and rougher,  the navigation system shows us we're still on a road. Miles pass on, gravel becomes rocks, dust becomes mud. The kids love it, me and Flexie keep everything under control. But all of a sudden, after a one-and-a-half-hour drive, we arrive at a dead end!

Holy, crap. Yes, the GPS sows that the road ends, but another map shows us the road should go on. A third map doesn't show any road at all. After a while we turn around and try to look at it positively: 'We know the road, because we drove it already.' The road was a lot of fun too! And, the 365-hp 3.5L Ecoboost engine is the perfect match for it.
